How to create veeam Backup Repository ? Veeam Backup for AWS

This article will walk you through how to create a backup repository to include EC2 instances in backup rotation on Veeam Backup. Backup EC2 instances using veeam backup is almost like set and forget. Veeam uses policy-based automation to take snapshots and backups to the s3 bucket. Veeam brings simplicity to streamline backup for Amazon EC2, Amazone RDS, and EFS. Adding to that, it also protects the VPC data. Let’s see how to create the new backup repository and configure worker nodes.

Veeam Backup Repository

1. Login to the Veeam Backup console. Click on “Configuration” .

2. Complete the “to do” list from this console. Click on “Configure Workers”

Select the VPC, subnet and subnet group for the workers nodes.

3. Click on “Add repository”. New wizard will open to configure the repo. Specify the repo name.

4. Enter the IAM role which will have required access for s3 bucket and KMS keys. You can check the permissions for the IAM role. Click on “Choose bucket” to select the s3 bucket to store the backup.

5. Choose the s3 bucket. If you do not have existing s3 bucket, please create a one before starting the configuration.

6. Create the new directory and select the s3 bucket storage class.

7. Here is the security settings. You can choose the repository encryption.

8. Review the summary and click on finish.

9. Here is the newly configured repo.

We have successfully configured worker nodes and created new repository based s3 backend.
