Create a new vsphere standard switch and configure to provide the network access to VM and ESXi hosts. The standard vsphere switch can bridge traffic internally between virtual machines in the same VLAN and link to external networks via uplinks. vSphere Standard Switch is very similar to a physical Ethernet switch. Virtual machine network adapters and physical NICs on the host use the logical ports on the switch as each adapter uses one port. In this article, we will create a new standard switch using a new VMNIC.
1. Login to vCenter as administrator.
2. Identify the free VMNIC on vSphere host. Select the vSphere host – > Configure – > Networking – > Physical Adapters.
3. Navigate to virtual switches tab to create a new vsphere standard switch.
4. Select physical adapter .
5. Select for new standard switch.
6. Select + to assign a new physical NIC to the vSwitch.
7. Select the VMNIC1
8. Click Next to continue.
9. Click Finish to create a new vswtich .
10. Here we can see the newly created vSwtich .
11. Go back to the physical adapter & see assigned vswitch for the VMNIC1.
12. Let’s see the view from Flash based web client.
Here you can see that new vSwitch has been created and vmnic1 has been assigned to it. This vswitch is unusable if there is no port group associated with it.
