The entire world is running behind virtualization and Operating system’s vendors also providing more options to customer to virtualize their environment. Here we are going to see about Redhat Linux virtualization using KVM/QEMU. Once you have completed the KVM installation on Redhat Linux , you can proceed to create a new Virtual machine. To use KVM, you need to install Redhat Linux on Hardware directly which supports VT technology.(Intel Core 2 Duo and above processor support this).
1.Open a virtual Machine Manager.
2.From Virtual Machine Manager, Click to create a new virtual Machine.
3.Enter the virtual Machine name and specify the source for the installation.
4.Specify the ISO image location.If you are using physical DVD/CD, select that.
5.Select the operating system type from OS type menu.It support many guest OS.
Ex:Solaris,Linux,Windows..etc..
6.Correct the OS version from the drop down list.
7.Specify the Memory and CPU.
8.Enter the guest disk size for root filesystem.
9.Finish the virtual machine creation if you no need to modify the advanced options.
10.In the advaced options, you can set the mac address and virtualization type.(kvm or Qemu).You can also select the architecture here.
11.After finishing the virtual machine creation , you will get guest OS console in new window as below.
12.You can also create a N- number of virtual machines according to the server resources availability.
13.In Virtual machine Manager, Edit->Connections , you will get the below screen to get the host performance details.
14.You can also specify the guest DHCP network here.
15.Here is the storage configuration for VM’s . We can add new storage by clicking + icon in the bottom.It supports iscsi Disks,LVM VG,Directory,SCSI Disks.Here i have just selected server’s local directory. (/var/tmp)
16.Network interfaces can be added according to our requirement.
17.Removing the VM is so simple. Just halt the VM and right click –> Delete from virtual machine manager console.
