Installation of veritas cluster and volume manager-SFHA

In this post we will see how to install storage foundation high availability packages on two servers using the installer on vmware Solaris guest operating systems. This installation same on actual Solaris physical servers and Linux servers. The simple installer will help you what product you want to install on the servers. If you want to install veritas cluster server along with veritas volume manager, choose SFHA.

To install SFHA on two nodes simultaneously ,we should configure the password less authentication configured on both Solaris host.

Download the trail packages from the below link. You can create new account and login to download packages.
Choose the package for Solaris 10 X64.

bash-3.00# df -h /
Filesystem size used avail capacity Mounted on
rpool/ROOT/s10x_u9wos_14a  9.8G 3.7G 4.7G 45% /

I have used vmware shared folder option to copy the software bundle to Solaris.

Copy the veritas package to /var/tmp
bash-3.00# cd /hgfs
bash-3.00# cp VRTS_SF_HA_Solutions_5.1_Solaris_x64.tar /var/tmp/
bash-3.00# cd /var/tmp
Extract the TAR file

  1. hi Lingeswaran

i am using solaris10 with 32 bit so i am not getting storage foundation and high availability solutions 6.0 for solaris10 x86 32 bit verion,if you know url please send it me so i can install and learn vxvm

  2. I installed vcs but after rebooting it is saying that vxvm not available…

  3. @Hari Naidu: I also had same issues .. check the Solaris update versions and vcs version. VCS 6.1 support only Solaris 10 Update 8, 9, 10 . So either go for VCS 5.1 or update the Solaris 10.

  4. after running ./installer i’m getting the following error:

Error: Cannot find perl to execute ./installer!

How to work around this issue?

  5. Hi Lingeswaran,

I followed the steps you provided, but in the end i got error msgs that said packages failed to install on node2. On node1 they are installed. I checked the log files and each of them says this:

pkgadd: ERROR: unable to determine current run-state

    Installation of failed (internal error).
No changes were made to the system.

I copied only VRTSperl one but it is same error for every package that failed to install on node2.

  6. Hi i want to download storage foundation for RHEL 7 for trial purpose. from where can i get it ?
